Can I download an eBook from Sprague Library? How does it work?
Answer
eBooks can be downloaded directly from the Sprague Library’s online book catalog. Once you have selected the title you want to download, follow the steps below:
Once you click on the title of the book you would like to download, look for the button that says “View eBook.” Clicking this link will bring you to the page where you can read the book online, download and print select chapters, and if available, download the book in its entirety. This page will also list the availability and permissions associated with the eBook, which can vary depending on the particular license for a given item. Because the Sprague Library purchases eBook licenses from a variety of vendors, this page will look slightly different depending on which vendor supplied the eBook (see two examples below).
Once you select the option to download the eBook, you will be prompted to sign in with your account credentials. Note: for eBooks published by EBSCO, you will need to sign up for a free, separate “My EBSCOhost” account before downloading.
Once you have created and/or signed into your account, you will be prompted to select the file format of your download. This prompt will also list how long you are able to download the book for (borrowing times may vary depending on the specific book). Note: in order to read your download offline, you will need to download the free Adobe Digital Editions software. If you do not have it installed, you can follow the link on the prompt to do so. You will only need to download this software once, and it will work for all eBooks no matter the publisher.
Once you have downloaded and installed Adobe Digital Editions, return to the prompt and select full download. Then, select the downloaded file and open it with the Adobe Digital Editions software for offline access to your downloaded eBook.
