How do I find articles? How do I search a database?
Answer
The Find Articles search box that the library website defaults to is a good place to search for articles of any kind, but it won't search all of the library's databases well and it may make your search confusing because it will find articles from many fields of study. To find scholarly articles on a particular topic, select the Databases button on the library’s homepage. On the upper left corner of the Databases page, use the subject dropdown menu to select your subject. Next, select one of the “Best Bet” databases to get started with a search. Enter your search term(s).
Ask a Librarian: (If you are not sure which subject your research topic relates to, you can chat with a librarian to get some advice OR try a general database like Academic Search Complete or ProQuest Central).
In most databases, you have the option to check full-text and peer-reviewed. Once you have your initial results, try to narrow your results by date, and other selections. (The search limiters can be found just above the results after running a search.)
Your results can be refined by adding additional search terms or by using other available limits.
